Who

Hi.
I am Alvise Nicoletti, and this is my website as a photographer.

How

I started to like photography in 2007, and as self-taught I started to improve day by day, until I decided to lay off my previous work and to set up on my own.
After a year of study during the master “Into photography and Beyond” done by Istituto Europeo di Design, Venezia, I started to love stage photography and the world of the performing arts in general.

So I continued to work by myself for La Biennale di Venezia, for wich I also worked while taking my diploma.

What

Actually I am specialized in stage photography and any other form of photography related to performing arts. Especially Dance.
I like to do reportages of the creative process that brings a choreographer, or a director, to it’s final creation.
I love to take pictures of the shows after I understood what’s behind the scene, deep into the backstage, through the mind of the concerned interpreters and artists.

Becoming a “visual dramaturg”, giving a viewable feedback as a final step of the creation of the show.

Why

I think that performing arts are the most important and complex form of expression that actually exists.

I feel deeply that I want to be close to that world and I think that every photographer that approaches stage photography shouldn’t fall in the common sense that, in stage photography, art and documentation are two separate things.

I think that art and documentation must be the same thing, if the pictures are done up to art.
And that is what I’m trying to do, every day, with my work.
Also to give back a few of what this world is giving me.
